Hearing Aid Fitting & Programming

From matching your hearing needs, lifestyle and budget with the right technology to programming and adjusting your hearing aids, the audiologist at Big Thicket Hearing Aids & Audiology ensures your hearing aids deliver sound in the way you want to experience it.

We are the only hearing healthcare provider in the area that utilizes 3D ear scanning. This allows Dr. Ruiz to get the best fit possible without having to create impressions of the ear canal. And because the image is digital, we can get your hearing aids made and delivered faster than ever. We encourage you to bring a family member or friend to your hearing aid fitting appointment.

Hearing aid fitting

Did you know that no two people hear sounds the same way? It’s true! How you experience sound is as unique as your individual fingerprint. At Big Thicket Hearing Aids & Audiology, we focus on delivering extremely personalized fitting.

Your hearing aid fitting appointment will probably take slightly more time than other appointments you have at our office. Your new hearing aids arrive from the factory preprogrammed to your amplification needs, but Dr. Ruiz believes you deserve a higher level of personalization. This preprogramming is simply the base point for a more custom fitting.

Dr. Ruiz adjusts and fine-tunes your hearing aids so you experience sound comfortably in a variety of different settings. Whether you sit alone in your home watching television or go out to dinner with friends, your hearing aids will let you hear effortlessly and comfortably.

Live speech mapping

Big Thicket Hearing Aids & Audiology uses live speech mapping to adjust your hearing aids. Live speech mapping uses the sound of a familiar voice to ensure your hearing aids deliver sounds that sound right to you. That’s why we ask you to bring a friend or family member with you.

The audiologist will place a small microphone in your ear along with the hearing aid. Sounds are converted to visual signals displayed on a screen. You and Dr. Ruiz will see sound as you hear it. Using that familiar voice like a tuning fork, your hearing aid programs will be adjusted until you hear exactly the way you want.

Hearing aid care and maintenance

Before you leave your fitting appointment, you’ll practice inserting and removing your hearing aids until you are comfortable with the process. You’ll also learn how to take care of your new devices. This includes changing or charging the batteries and performing routine cleaning and maintenance. Finally, you’ll schedule a follow-up appointment to see how you are adjusting to the new technology.
